What do the New York Times, USA Today and ESPN have in common? A growing fondness for The D, as evidenced by the recent positive press coverage of the city’s momentum.

A New York Times June op-ed, “Is Motown Getting Its Groove Back?” details how Shinola, a high-end, Detroit-based watch maker, and other entrepreneurial projects are helping to shape Detroit’s comeback.

USA Today readers showed some love for the Motown Museum, aka Hitsville USA, when they named it to the 10Best Musical Attractions. But hey, we already knew that!

A feature in ESPN The Magazine’s June issue chronicles the traditions and intricacies of feather bowling, a sort of quirky Belgian shuffle board, as played at Detroit’s Cadieux Cafe.

And you may have caught some of the media hoopla surrounding Virgin Atlantic’s introduction of a twice daily non-stop flight from Detroit to London, which debuted in June. Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, was on the inaugural flight and had nothing but praise for America’s great comeback city.

It’s easy to have a crush on Detroit right now. Projects big and small are reshaping the destination. The new Bon Bon Bon shop turns out sweet treats in Greektown. Even the iconic Fox Theatre marquee is getting an update.
