Celebrate the Final Season at The Joe with the Detroit Red Wings
Since 1979, the Detroit Red Wings have called Joe Louis Arena home. During that time, the team has won the Stanley Cup four times, captured a division championship 16 times and qualified for the playoffs 30 times — including a franchise-record run of 25 straight appearances. With the team moving to Little Caesars Arena for the 2017–2018 NHL season, the coming months will be your last to experience the magic of Red Wings hockey at The Joe.
To celebrate the end of an era, the Red Wings and Olympia Entertainment have launched the "Farewell Season at The Joe" campaign. It's a yearlong celebration that will not only highlight historic games, but also entertainment acts and special events held at The Joe during the building's illustrious 38-year history.
There will be championship and alumni celebrations, memorable giveaways and special entertainment performances leading up to the final regular-season home game on Sunday, April 9, 2017, against the New Jersey Devils. For a full list of giveaways and theme nights, click here.
You can get in on the action! Single-game tickets for the regular season can be purchased at the Joe Louis Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets or online at DetroitRedWings.com.
Where to hangout before and after the game
Detroit is full of great places to grab a beer and a bite before a game. It's probably a no-brainer that a place called Hockeytown Café would be one of the best. Pizza, burgers, sandwiches and more complement a large selection of beers.
Right down the street from Hockeytown Café is Cheli's Chili Bar, which is owned by former Red Wings player Chris Chelios. Both offer shuttle services to and from The Joe for Wings home games.
If you're looking for something within walking distance, check out Cobo Joe's Sports Bar & Grill, one of downtown's oldest sports bars. There are plenty of televisions to watch the pre-game shows and you'll enjoy an unmatched game day atmosphere.
After the game (hopefully a Red Wings victory!) there's no shortage of places to grab a late-night snack or a celebratory drink, including Greektown favorites Pegasus Taverna and Fishbone's. Or, grab a famous Detroit Coney dog after the game, there's nothing quite like it.
Where to get your Wings gear
If you're heading to the game, or even just someplace local to watch it, make sure you have on your fan apparel.
While you're sure to find some great gear at any of the local malls, for the best selection of Red Wings merchandise, shop Hockeytown Authentics during games at The Joe or at its second location in Troy. Detroit Althetic Co. also offers a nice selection of Wing's getup.
Right now, you can purchase limited-edition Red Wings Stadium Series Jerseys, while supplies last. The store also has a vast selection of autographed pucks, game-worn jerseys, equipment and more. You can also shop the Red Wings online at shop.nhl.com.
You'll be wearing your fan apparel for years to come because, while the Wings are ending an era at The Joe this season, they'll be starting an exciting new chapter next season at the world-class Little Caesars Arena.
