Guide to Movement Electronic Music Festival

Hart Plaza will be electric later this month with the upcoming Movement Electronic Music Festival. The annual event welcomes some of the best electronic musicians in the world to the Detroit Riverfront, and droves of fans and revelers descend on the city that helped transform the genre into a cultural phenomenon.

If this 2012 promo video gets you excited, you need to be in downtown Detroit come May 25.

Of course, when the days of dancing end, it’s nice to have a place to rest your head. The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center is adjacent to Hart Plaza, right in the center of the action, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer some of the most mesmerizing views in the city, and during the festival, the lights and dancers below. Hostel Detroit is another great option for groups, with single beds and community rooms at an affordable rate. For a full list of places to stay downtown, visit our website at www.visitdetroit.com.

We also recommend visitors stay hydrated and energized, and what better way to stay revved than with a belly full of Coney dogs. Within easy walking distance of Hart Plaza visitors will find the famous American Coney Island and Lafayette Coney Island and plenty of other nearby restaurants and bars in the heart of downtown Detroit.

For more information on this year’s musical lineup, as well as pre- and after-parties, head on over to www.movement.us. The downtown streets will be packed with Detroiters and visitors. Do any festival veterans have advice for first-timers as they explore the music and the Motor City?
