Whether you want to make a good first impression or share a night out with your long-time love, putting a little thought and effort into planning something special is always appreciated. So skip the movie and make some Motown memories this winter.

That’s the Spirits

Get to know each other — or reconnect — over drinks. Start out the evening somewhere neither of you has tried before. Some suggestions: the tasting room at Two James Distillery in Corktown, Eastern Market’s Detroit City Distillery, or Our Detroit Vodka near Mexicantown. And if you’ve never been to Coach Insignia at the top of the Renaissance Center, the spectacular skyline view from the upstairs bar and the extensive wine list are well worth the trip.

The Art of Romance

Friday Night Live at the Detroit Institute of Arts provides the perfect canvas for a great date. The DIA stays open late every Friday evening for live music, art-making workshops, drawing in the galleries or just admiring the world class art collection we have here in Detroit.

Cold Hands, Warm Heart

Lace up your ice skates and go for a spin (or a shuffle) around the rink at Campus Martius Park in the heart of downtown Detroit. A perfect excuse to hold hands.

Lose Your Heart in Hockeytown

For our first “official” date, my hockey-loving husband got us tickets to see his beloved Red Wings. Although I had never been to a game, the excitement of cheering on the Wings at the Joe easily won me over. And discussing the rules of the game was a good conversation starter.

Spice up Your Night

Step out of your comfort zone and head to Vicente’s for Cuban food and salsa dancing every Friday and Saturday night. Don’t worry if your moves are rusty, they offer lessons!

Get Lucky

Planning an evening at one of Detroit’s three casinos can be a good bet. Up the ante and make it a stay-cation when you book an overnight stay at Greektown Casino-Hotel, MotorCity Casino-Hotel or MGM Grand Detroit. Add in a relaxing dinner, tickets to a live show and maybe even a spa treatment for some quality time with your someone special. You deserve it!

Jazz It up

For an unforgettable night on the town, you can’t beat the storied Cliff Bell’s. From the lavish art deco interior to the eclectic dinner menu, the nightly live entertainment to the undeniable cool club vibe, you won’t want the evening to end.
